KIRKUK — Brig. Gen. Khatub Umer Aref recently led more than 400 Iraqi Emergency Service Unit “Lions” in Operation Lion Dragon Hunt here, proving the skill, determination and professionalism of his unit.

The Lions had assistance from Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry, attached to 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, known as the "Dragons," led by Capt. Jeremiah Fritz, the commander of Delta Company. In addition to the Delta Company Soldiers, the U.S. Army also provided military working dogs to assist in the mission, according to Fritz.

SHAIBA, Iraq –Iraqi Army soldiers from the 14th Infantry Division graduated from the Shaiba Training Center M16 Familiarization Course here Dec. 24.  The rigorous training lasted seven days and covered all the information required for soldiers to effectively utilize the M16A4 rifle.

TAQADDUM — More than a dozen Iraqi law enforcement officers recently completed a four-day Crime Scene Investigation course instructed by U.S. Military Police here.

The Iraqi officers, representing three distinguished organizations, earned Army certificates and kudos from the 591st Military Police Company, 151st Military Police Battalion, 49th Military Police Brigade instructors and the 49th's commander, Brig. Gen. Donald Currier. The officers completed a series of training scenarios that included classroom and field work in evidence collection.

COS GARRYOWEN — The citizens of Iraq took a more independent role in securing their country with the signing of the Security Agreement, June 30. In support of this goal, U.S. Scouts are conducting joint operations and training with Iraqi Army Commandos.
