Al-Qaeda bombing cells weakened
BAGHDAD
– Coalition forces detained 10 suspects – including three men wanted for equipping terrorists with weapons and explosives – while disrupting al-Qaeda in Iraq’s bombing networks Sunday in central and northern Iraq.

An alleged weapons facilitator in the Tigris River Valley is in Coalition custody after forces captured him and another suspect in Tikrit. The wanted man is assessed to lead AQI cells in a village there and provide weapons for cells from Tikrit north to Bayji. He reportedly specializes in transferring sniper rifles to terrorists.

During a precision operation in Baghdad, Coalition forces captured a man suspected of working for AQI bombing cells in the city. Intelligence reports indicate he directly conspires with weapons and bombing facilitators in the northern half of Baghdad.

In Mosul, Coalition forces captured an alleged explosives expert who reportedly provides bombing materials for AQI cells across northern Iraq. He is believed to be attempting to acquire chemicals for attacks on Iraqi civilians and security forces during Ramadan. Six additional suspects were detained in operations in the city.
