Coalition forces capture targeted criminal, detain one other suspect

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition forces captured a suspected Special Groups leader in Diyala Province during operations targeting criminal elements in the Al Khalis area Nov. 18.

The targeted individual was reportedly a senior-level distributor of mortars, Improvised Explosive Devices, munitions, and other weapons to Special Groups criminal elements. The suspected criminal was also reportedly an associate of several other senior-level criminal element leaders who were involved in attacks on Coalition forces.

Intelligence led ground forces to the target building where they captured the wanted individual and another suspected criminal without incident. During the operation, Coalition forces discovered one assault rifle, one sniper rifle, one handgun, numerous ammunition magazines and two grenades.

"Coalition forces continues to welcome the pledge by Muqtada al-Sadr to stop attacks, and we will continue to show restraint with those who honor that pledge," said Maj. Winfield Danielson, MNF-I spokesman. "We will also continue to pursue those who do not honor this pledge and remove them from Iraqi communities."
