Coalition forces respond to IED attack, detain 21 (Wehida)

Multi-National Division – Center PAO

FORWARD OPERATING BASE HAMMER, Iraq – Two improvised explosive devices struck a Coalition force’s convoy in Wehida, Iraq, May 2.

These attacks led to the detention of 21 suspects.

The Multi-National Division – Center soldiers were en route to a combat outpost when the attack occurred. The soldiers immediately secured the area and called for quick reaction force assistance.

The QRFs from 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, and the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, secured the area and began casualty evacuation of a wounded soldier and a translator.

Continuing on to the COP, the Coalition forces received fire from nearby buildings.

The troops established a base of fire and started a cordon and search of the area.

During the operation, Coalition forces detained 21, which led to five pinpoint operations and the capture of three people responsible for the attack on the CF patrol.
