Multi-National Corps – Iraq Public Affairs Office, Camp Victory APO AE 09342 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RELEASE No. 20080508-12 May 8, 2008 Humanitarian assistance continues in Sadr City Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO BAGHDAD – Leaders from the government of Iraq, Iraqi Security Forces and Multi-National Division – Baghdad continued humanitarian aid missions in Sadr City May 7. Iraqi Army civil affairs teams from the 42nd Brigade, 11th IA Division, treated more than 200 residents of Sadr City for various ailments. MND-B Soldiers were also on hand to assist and treat the residents. Iraqi government engineers also met with IA and MND-B civil affairs teams to develop a plan to fix a water main break in the city. The officials additionally discussed methods to improve sewage and electricity issues for the residents of the area. A civil military operations center, located at Joint Security Station Sadr City, has been established to provide the Government of Iraq, the ISF and MNDB, the ability to coordinate their efforts in providing services for the residents of Sadr City and to coordinate help for rebuilding the infrastructure in the area. Since April 1, the combined forces contributing to Sadr City relief efforts have sent 98,000 bottles of water, 46,000 meals, 65 5-Kw generators, 24,000 Life Straws (water purifiers), 600 bags of school supplies, six Milvans of construction supplies and a substantial supply of medicine. -30- FOR QUERIES, CONTACT MULTI-NATIONAL DIVISION - BAGHDAD PUBLIC AFFAIRS AT:
