Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO
BAGHDAD – Iraqi Security and Coalition forces seized three weapons caches and destroyed an enemy fighting position in operations across Baghdad May 6.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Multi-National Division - Baghdad soldiers found a weapons cache during a mine detecting mission northwest of Baghdad. The cache contained 14 82 mm mortar rounds and various bomb-making components.
At approximately 4 p.m., soldiers discovered a cache containing 25 pounds of homemade explosives in southern Baghdad.

At approximately 4:15 p.m., an air weapons team engaged and destroyed an enemy fighting position in Sadr City. It is unknown the number of criminals, who were attacking Coalition forces with small arms fire, were killed or injured in the engagement.

At approximately 5 p.m., Iraqi Army soldiers located a weapons cache in western Baghdad containing an improvised explosive device, a 57 mm rocket and a grenade.

“Criminals are harboring these illegal weapons to use against the people of Iraq,” said Col. Allen Batschelet, chief of staff, MND-B and 4th Infantry Division. “In cooperation with our Iraqi partners, our goal is to remove these weapons off the streets, and create a peaceful and stable environment for the local citizens here in Baghdad.”
