ISF confiscate weapons in Rashid

Multi-National Division – Baghdad

FORWARD OPERATING BASE FALCON, Iraq – Iraqi Security Forces discovered a weapons cache and confiscated numerous other weapons Aug. 17 – 18 in the Rashid district of southern Baghdad.
 
Iraqi Army soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 24th Brigade, 6th IA Division, confiscated 29 AK-47 rifles and 15 AK-47 magazines during a clearing operation at approximately 9:45 a.m. in the Saydiyah community Aug. 17
 
Acting on a tip, police from the 3rd Battalion, 5th Brigade, 2nd National Police Division, discovered nine 60 mm mortar rounds, a rifle, an Iranian-manufactured sniper rifle and 300 rounds of PKC ammunition at approximately 1 a.m. in the Furat neighborhood Aug. 18.
 
“These soldiers are outside the wire everyday patrolling the streets to provide a safe and secure environment for the Iraqi people,” said Maj. Dave Olson, spokesman, 1st BCT, 4th Inf. Div., MND-B. “The Iraqi Security and Coalition forces will continue to find weapons enabling the citizens to live in a peaceful country.”
