BALAD, Iraq – Iraqi Security Forces detained five suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq cell members in Balad, approximately 79 kilometers north of Baghdad, during an operation to disrupt terrorist operations, June 14. One of the AQI suspects is said to be a key leader within the terrorist network, which provides a line of support through Balad and Dujayl. Three other suspected criminals are reportedly members of a cell conducting indirect fire attacks. One additional suspect was detained during the operation. “The capture of these suspected terrorists should disrupt the AQI network’s operations in the area,” said Lt. Col. Neil Harper, a spokesman for Multi-National Corps – Iraq. -30- FOR MORE INFORMATION OR FOR HIGH-RES PHOTOS, CONTACT THE MULTI-NATIONAL CORPS – IRAQ PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE BY E-MAIL AT:
