Local Iraqi farmer assists U.S. Forces (Ad Diwaniyah)

BAGHDAD – U.S. Soldiers received a bag of weapons from a local farmer near Ad Diwaniyah Jan. 12.

Soldiers with Troop A, 3rd Bn., 73rd Cav. Regt., were patrolling when they were told to investigate a weapons cache. The Soldiers were shown a bag of weapons the farmer turned in, which contained a cache of explosive material.

The cache consisted of 17 sticks of commercial grade C4, several boosters, two propelling charges and two coolant units.

Explosive ordinance disposal Soldiers recovered what was salvageable and conducted a controled detonation to dispose of the remaining items deemed to be unstable.

A farmer turned in a bag of weapons to a local security force near Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq.

Soldiers from Troop A, 3rd Bn, 73rd Cav. Regt. arrived on scene and called EOD.
