Multi-National Corps – Iraq Public Affairs Office, Camp Victory APO AE 09342 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RELEASE No. 20080728-02 July 28, 2008 MND-B Soldiers detain known criminal, find weapons cache Multi-National Division – Baghdad PAO BAGHDAD – Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers detained a known criminal and discovered a weapons cache July 27 in the Rashid district of southern Baghdad. Around 1 a.m. in the Abu T’shir neighborhood, Soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division detained the Special Groups criminal known for rocket and roadside bomb attacks against Coalition forces. The patrol returned to a combat outpost with the suspect for questioning. Nearly two hours later, the Soldiers discovered two nitrous oxide tanks, a fire extinguisher filled with homemade explosives, an undisclosed amount of 7.62 mm ammunition, two pressure plates used in roadside bombs and a smoke grenade in the Doura community. An explosives ordnance disposal team disposed of the explosive materials. “The 1st Brigade has detained many criminals since assuming the mission in the Rashid district in April 2008,” said Maj. Dave Olson, 1st BCT Spokesman, 4th Inf. Div., MND-B. “They are making the streets and neighborhoods a safer place for the Iraqi citizens and Coalition forces.”
