Mosul bombing cell disrupted

BAGHDAD – Coalition forces in Mosul captured two wanted men and detained an additional nine al-Qaeda in Iraq suspects during operations Monday.

An alleged bombing cell leader in the city was captured with five suspected associates. The wanted man is also believed to manufacture bombs and target Iraqi and Coalition forces providing security for Iraqi citizens.

Coalition forces captured a wanted man with alleged ties to AQI senior leaders and four additional suspects. Two of the suspects were injured when they jumped from the roof of the target building in an attempt to evade Coalition forces. Another suspect, who was armed, received minor injuries when he was detained by Coalition forces. All three suspects were treated on the scene by a Coalition forces medic and transported to a military medical facility.

“Coalition forces and our Iraqi partners are continuing efforts to uncover and disrupt terrorist bombing networks in the Mosul area and throughout Iraq,” said Navy Lt. David Russell, MNF-I spokesman.
