BAGHDAD, Iraq – Multi-National Force-Iraq condemns the attacks today by al-Qaeda Iraq (AQI) against the Sunni Endowment and Concerned Local Citizens.  The barbaric nature of AQI continues to find new depths of depravity in killing courageous Iraqi citizens who reject the terrorists and their Taliban ideology.
 
Concerned Local Citizens Group Finds Large Weapons Cache Print E-mail

BAGHDAD — Concerned Local Citizens (CLC) in Tuwaitha, a village southeast of Baghdad, discovered on Jan. 1 one of the largest weapon caches found since the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team deployed to the Mada’in Qada nine months ago.  The cache consisted of two five-gallon jugs of homemade explosives, seven 85 mm rockets, one 73 mm rocket, ten 82 mm mortar rounds, two 57 mm mortar rounds, two 60 mm mortar rounds, two rocket-propelled grenade launchers and two 40 mm explosive projectiles.

— In a vital and encouraging boost to the efforts against al-Qaida in Iraq (AQI), local sheiks met with Coalition forces Jan. 4, to discuss cooperation and future Concerned Local Citizen (CLC) programs.  CLC programs are similar to Neighborhood Watch programs in the United States.  Sheiks from areas surrounding Sayafia spoke with commanders Col. Terry Ferrell, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, and Col. Dan Ball, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Inf. Div., Fort Stewart, Ga.
 
Iraqi Citizen Volunteers Find Multiple Weapon Caches Print E-mail

FORWARD OPERATING BASE HAMMER — Concerned Local Citizens (CLC) in Sabbah Nissan, a village southeast of Baghdad, turned in 123 20 mm rounds to Soldiers of Battery A, 1st Battalion, 10th Field Artillery, during a recent visit by the Soldiers to the CLCs headquarters.  This was the fourth cache the CLC group has handed over to Battery A in the past two weeks.
