Two wanted AQI suspects, 11 others detained in Coalition operations

BAGHDAD – Coalition forces detained 13 suspected terrorists during operations around the country today targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq and its foreign terrorist network.

Information gained from an operation April 10 led Coalition forces to a wanted man in Baghdad, who surrendered and identified himself to them. The wanted man is allegedly part of the al-Qaeda in Iraq – or AQI – network in the Northern Belt around Baghdad, but is believed to have contacts with the terrorist group in the city as well. One additional suspect was also detained.

In a precision operation approximately 60 miles west of Baghdad, Coalition forces captured a wanted man who is allegedly a terrorist facilitator believed to assist with the movement of terrorists into Iraq.

Coalition forces also targeted the AQI foreign terrorist facilitation network in northwest Iraq, detaining 10 suspected terrorists.

“Al-Qaeda in Iraq is a foreign-led terrorist organization that has come into this country to keep the Iraqi people from the peaceful future they have chosen,” said Lt. Col. Maura Gillen, MNF-I spokeswoman.
