Senate Passes Cut-and-Run Supplemental; Cuts-and-Runs Home for Spring Break Print E-mail

ImageThe Democrat-controlled Senate has succeeded in passing their version of the "emergency" supplemental which, buried under conditions, defeatist withdrawal timetables, and piles of pork  actually contains the funding that our troops need to keep fighting.

The bill pased 51-47. Not surprisingly, Joe Lieberman (I-CT) voted against it, while on the other side, Republicans Chuck Hagel (R-NE) and Gordon Smith (R-OR) crossed over to vote for defeat.

So what happens now? Well, President Bush has made crystal clear that he will veto the bill. But he won't even get a chance for several weeks. The Democratic leadership have decided to stick to the normal (read: non-emergency) calendar, and so Congress is now heading home for Spring Break. Once they return, the Senate bill still needs to be reconciled with the House version, and so the final bill won't make it to President Bush's desk until at least mid-April.

Meanwhile, our troops are waiting. So it turns out that according to the Democratic leadership, funding for the Tree Assistance Program, sugar beets , and the Ewe Lamb Replacement and Retention Program are all "emergencies". But there's nothing urgent at all about actually getting funds to our soldiers on the battlefield.

The arrogance of these politicians is intolerable. What is the story on "PORK"? Do the really think the citizens of this country are stupid? GET THE JOB DONE! What is all this BS for? Now they want to go on Spring Break like a bunch of kids? It's a sure thing these idiots couldn't run a business. Bush has to veto this and stand up for the people of the USA. Our troops, along with the majority of the American public, want to win this war and eliminate the threat from these Middle eastern scumbag, sub-human swine. They all need to be obliterated and the troops can do it if Bush is left alone to do the job. I'm ashamed of our Democratic representatives. We need these politicians to take heed. How quickly they forget their oath of office once they are "in the club". I hope they all lose their next elections, and their pensions.

Hagel and Nelson
written by harry naasz, March 29, 2007
My fury with my senators, Hagel and Nelson, has been expressed to them and to the Omaha World Herald... The world they seem to inhabit has no relation to the world that is. Remember the votes of your senators. Support the President!

One should first look at what took place yeaterday with the vote to strike the words regarding the time line. Senator Chuck Hagel (the Senates new version of John Murtha) helped keep this in the bill by voting with the democrats. As well as Seantor Enzi failed to vote on the measure, (while Pryor(D-AR)voted with the Republicans against the wording) these two senators could have put the vote at dead even and the deciding vote would have went to the Vice President. Now today, Chuck Hagel and Gordon Smith decided to jump ship on the vote and again Enzi did not vote plus Pryor went back and voted with his party. These would again have been enough to stymie the vote and put it to the VP. So to an extent we can not blame it all on the Democrats. If one can not keep the Republicans on the same sheet, one should not put all the blame on the Democrats.

But who will suffer the most because of both parties inability to act responsibly, the troops. Even if the bill goes back to the Congress and is trimmed down, the funds will not reach the troops soon enough. So in my opinion, from the end of April till funds are provided, the deaths of any soldiers during this time should fall squarely on the heads of both parties, but especially the Democrats for putting it in this appropriations bill knowing that it would cause a delay. Madam Pelosi stated yesterday that the president should "tone down the rhetoric" because a new Congress is in town, and they don't play the way the old one did. Well DUH, she had to work hard on that one, but Madam Pelosi, you are at the heart, along with Murtha, in regards to the deaths that will be sustained in the next few months.
This means that the surge is given more time to work
written by eh, March 29, 2007
So what it means is that the surge gets more time to work while congress dithers away months and months.

The troops will get operational money even if the money comes from other parts of their current budget. Following the veto etc. then congress will make up the shortfalls.

Silly & causes our logistical troops to work harder too but everything is politcal now....until the next big terror attack on the US.
Reps and Dems both touting porked filled Iraq funding bills

I posted this yst on my blog:

Reps and Dems both touting porked filled Iraq funding bills

If Nancy Pelosi wants to support a real plan for victory in Iraq, here's one that has real substance and potential of getting true bi-partisan support and actually signed by President Bush.

Both the Dems and Reps in the US House and Senate are touting partisan filled pork bills to achieve their own political self-interests and objectives. The American people are watching this unfold and are not that easily fooled. This may haunt both political parties in the next presidential election. There is a rift zone now emerging for a new centralist political party that puts the interest of Country above that of partisan self-interest.

It is nice to know that "that party" is involved wit pork but not the party which used to run things. The silly remarks about cut and rufn nonsense do not reflect what the American people feel. What is that? That are fine American people, ill equipped and prepared, have been sent over and over via rotation to be between these forces:
1. Sunnis
2. Shia
3. Al Qaeda
4. miliatis that do not want an American presence in Iraq

This is not a vote to cut and ruyn and made by the Democrats. This is an American perspective, seen via last election...the blame game and guilt game no longer works for the Bush hangers on. And watch the desertions as the next election approaches.

"Do the really think the citizens of this country are stupid?"

Uh, yeah, pretty much. And, unfortunately for all of us, they're not entirely wrong.

Although, I think the main problem with the American public is it has the attention span of a squirrel.

"Although, I think the main problem with the American public is it has the attention span of a squirrel."

Well, at least squirrels are concentrating their attention on "nuts".
The American public dialog is pretty much made up by "nuts", left and right.
Too bad the squirrels can't hide these idiots "for winter use".

Does anyone out there remember the late 70s? - stagnation, gas prices out of this world, record unemployment, and military defeat (Vietnam) and embarassments (Jimmy Carter and the Iranian crisis). That's where we are headed - massive taxes, massive spending, and military defeat at the hands of "punks" due to the lunacy of the far Left. Thanks for defeating those "bad" Republicans in Congress in '06.
Question on stopping funding for a war
written by Hal, March 29, 2007
I have heard a number of folks suggest that non-binding resolutions are a pointless and foolish way to signal opposition to a war on the part of Congress. That if one truly believed a war wrong, one should vote to cut funding. OK. I see comments also, though, that by cutting funding by a given date, Congress is acting wrongly by telling our adversaries when we will "surrender." My question is, if a member of Congress believes a war is wrong what IS the right way to act to cut off funds? Immediately? By a given date? How?
Hey, Bush should just sign the thing

and ignore the unconstitutional stuff. If the Left thinks it can get to 67 votes for impeachment, let them try.

The abreviation for Nebraska is NE, not NB. Not a big deal, but for a second there I wondered if Hagel represented Namitoba.

Vietnam was not a loss, strictly speaking...

The Vietnam War came to an end also due to a Democratic Congress. Here is how:

1. Vietnam had been victorious aginst the Viet Cong in 1968 Tet Offensive (with US air and ground support ) the North Vietnamese wisely sent in the Viet Cong to get rid of them first. The North Vietnamese wanted no other Communists in the South to impede their takeover at a later date.
2. South Vietnam had fought off a North Vietnamese invasion without US ground troop (only US air support and materiel support) after the US pulled out ground troops after 1972.
3. The US Congress (Democrat controlled) voted to eliminate all US air support and materiel support in 1975. The South Vietnamese had been victorious against the North Vietnamese before and were slowly moving toward democracy themseleves. In addition, the South Vietnamese did not want to be part of a communist North Vietnam. The vote essentially eliminated all guns, bullets and munitions and any other support we had benn giving South Vietnam.
4. The surprised North Vietnamese (after the US Congress vote to hand over South Vietnam to them) immediately pushed through another large invasion of the South (over 150,000 troops and over 1,000 tanks - there were no Viet Cong). Of course Vietnam fell, Cambodia fell, Laos fell, Burma became Communist.

These same Democrats are in power today (Murtha, Kerry, Kennedy, etc.) so we will see the same thing in Iraq. We will see millions of refugees, millions of dead, more and larger wars in the region, and an emboldened enemy which will attack us directly. In addition, the Iranians want nuclear weapons, and are willing to supply them to their Islamic terrorist armies in other countries.

So, the number of deaths is likely to be hundreds of millions as they use nuclear weapons in addition to conventional, ever heard of "nuclear winter"? Iran has stated they will want to use nuclear weapons on Israel, thus Israel will retaliate. For those of you afraid of global warming, have no fear, this will control global warming but cause crop failures around the world, etc., in a much shorter time frame.

Violation of the Logan Act.

This is no time for partisan politics. It is time for ACTION to stop this sedition. (Actions or words intended to provoke or incite rebellion against government authority.)

First, the U.S. Constitution implicitly gives the President the authority to conduct foreign policy.

In order, to make that responsibility explicit, in 1798, President John Adams initiated the Logan Act, which forbids any American -- "without authority of the United States" -- to communicate with a foreign government with the intent of influencing that government's actions in any "disputes or controversies with the United States."

VIOLATION OF THE LOGAN ACT IS A FELONY. Upon conviction, an offender can be sentenced to prison for up to three years. That should make Nancy Pelosi a prime candidate for a prison cell.

The U.S. broke off diplomatic relations with Syria in 2005, so no communication with that country's government could possibly occur "with the authority of the United States."

Pelosi is flagrant and shameless strutting on the world's stage... her cavorting with supporters of terrorism... constitutes a declaration of war against the Executive Branch of our government.

But more than that... She gave every terrorist around the world a GREEN LIGHT!

She sent a clear and unmistakable message to terrorists and terrorist sponsors around the world; namely that the United States is divided and weak and that we don't have the will to fight an enemy that has shown itself to be ruthless and not beyond killing innocent Americans at home and abroad.

Pelosi's actions are not simply foolish -- they are dangerous. However, what is even more of a danger is the "ho-hum" reaction of our so-called conservative leaders in Congress.

It's time for our conservative leaders in Congress to stop behaving like Little Goody Two-Shoes and start defending their President, the rule of law, the U.S. troops in Iraq, and those Pelosi went to the Middle East to betray.

It is time for our leaders in Congress to send the RIGHT MESSAGE to terrorists and terrorist supporters like Bashar Assad!

I demand that Nancy Pelosi be investigated with the same zeal and tenacity Patrick Fitzgerald showed when he set a perjury trap for Scooter Libby. Demand that they show the same zeal and tenacity that liberals are now showing as they go after President Bush and the Attorney General over the legal firings of U.S. District Attorneys.

More importantly, I demand that Pelosi either resign of face immediate impeachment proceedings for her violation of the Logan Act.
Sedition - The Logan Act Covers this perfectly - let congress know your opinion

Call Congress

The More Calls They Get the more they'll have to listen. Jam up the Capitol Hill switchboard: call (202) 224-3121. Ask for Nancy Pelosi’s office and tell her what you think; then call your own Congressman too.
