Shaiba Training Center Combines NCO Graduations

SHAIBA, Iraq – Shaiba Training Center NCO courses graduated 15 Iraqi soldiers from the platoon sergeant course and 31 soldiers from the corporal course here Nov. 14.

Non-commissioned officers, known as the “backbone” of the military, are the primary leaders responsible for training and leading junior enlisted soldiers. These soldiers are now prepared to serve in roles of increased responsibility as NCOs.

The culminating event for these courses was a live-fire training exercise at the close-quarters marksmanship training area in which students were required to navigate the course with an M16 rifle. Soldiers also received extensive training on the identification of mines, defense of protective belts, ambush and patrolling techniques.

At the combined graduation ceremony, the soldiers were recognized and congratulated by Training Center Commander, Iraqi Lt. Col. Mahmood. One graduate of the platoon sergeant course said, “My final test will be my ability to share my new knowledge with my fellow squad and platoon members.”

These soldiers now return to their units to continue their efforts to promote a safe and secure Iraq.
